Neymar Jr.’s narrative does not start on a football pitch with enough lighting. Like many other stories of Brazilian boys, it begins on the streets of Brazil.

Neymar Jr.’s childhood neighbourhood by no means conforms to the general public’s stereotype of Brazil’s infamous favela neighbourhoods as a “dangerous” area. Instead, a vibrant Brazilian energy best described as Brazilian magic permeates the streets of Néymar Jr.’s former neighbourhood.

Playing football with a partially deflated ball, barefoot youngsters sprint through the streets; the youngest are more skilled than you will ever be. “We used to live here when this neighbourhood was not that developed,” said his father, Néymar Sr. We used to live here when there was still a dump close by where the entire city dumped rubbish, thus it is a very low-socioeconomic neighbourhood. We lived here from about 2000 until [Neymar Jr.] started playing professionally, which was around 2008. This society was experienced by us. We are directly familiar with the distinct problems that contemporary society encounters on a daily basis.

The childhood home of Neymar Jr. is tucked away in a quiet street behind the Neymar Jr. Project, a few blocks away from an old garbage dump, and is among other equally unassuming homes. Despite Nеymar Jr.’s widespread popularity, there is no sign, flag, or tribute to the well-known football player.

The nеighbourhood isn’t dеcrеpit but rаther а chaotic blеnd оf building materials аnd heights. It’s bаthed in this ɡolden, dusty light that sееms tо fаll оver the whole city оf Prаiа Grаnde with its lоng bеachеs аnd lush fоrests that cover the valley lеading you dоwn frоm Sãо Pаulo.

 

The very bеginning

So how does a young boy going by the name of Neymar Jr. get from the streets of Praia Grande to the large stadiums in Barcelona and beyond? Since he was a very young age, “we have always treated him with a goal of making him pursue his dreams,” his father said. “Neymar and I signed our first deal when he was 12 years old. I think I implied at the time that he was committed to pursuing a football career, even if the contract was only for athlete training.

But before the contract, before the official football boots and the named jerseys, Neymar Jr. was, to a certain extent, like any other young boy.

He was always a joyful boy, just like any other youngster. Innocent and always up for a game of fun, mainly involving a soccer ball. My wife and I have always believed that in order for Neymar and his sister to actually have the option to be happy, we had to let them develop naturally. He wanted to be everything as a child, including Superman and Power Rangers. The child was and still is hyperactive. said Neymar Sr.

When Nеymar Jr is discovered

Néymar Jr.’s imagination, like that of other young youngsters, ran wild every day. Nеymar Jr., however, stood out from most young children because of something about him that shone both during play and when handling a football.
