Manul cats, also known as Pallas’ cats, are a species of wild cat that can be found in the grasslands and montane steppes of Central Asia. They have some distinct features such as round pupils, short legs, and a face with wide-set ears that often create amusing expressions. The scientific name of this cat is Otocolobus, which translates to “ugly-eared,” perhaps explaining why they have a perpetually grumpy appearance.

Despite their fluffy appearance, Manul cats are actually similar in size and weight to domestic cats. These adorable felines prefer to inhabit high altitudes, reaching up to 15,000 feet, and they thrive in cold climates. Due to their short legs, they are not skilled runners and will choose to hide in crevasses under boulders if they need to escape from danger.

While the amusing photos may make Pallas’ cats seem like appealing pets, their solitary and wild nature, coupled with their high mortality rate at lower altitudes, make them more suitable for professional zoos.
