Last April, Charlotte Halliday (23 years old, living in Queensland, Australia) shared a touching story about her newborn son with severe cleft lip and cleft palate.

Now, nearly three months after giving birth, Charlotte has shared adorable photos of her son Charlie’s first smile. The photo set quickly received attention and touched many people.

Through social networks, Charlotte regularly updates Charlie’s health status after visits to the hospital. There are currently more than 1,300 people following baby Charlie online and giving a lot of support to Charlotte’s family.

If all goes well, baby Charlie will have his first lip surgery later this year.

Charlotte shared on social networks the story of little Charlie, her first son who unfortunately had a severe cleft lip and palate.

On a Facebook page called Charlie’s Journey, Charlotte updates her child’s health status after hospital visits.

Over the past few weeks, baby Charlie has had to go to the hospital because of some eating problems. Doctors will not be able to perform surgery on your baby until he or she stops using the feeding tube.

Baby Charlie and his family will return to the hospital in 6 weeks with the hope that his feeding tube will be removed and his surgery will be performed.

“At first I didn’t notice anything was wrong. The baby was placed on me but I couldn’t see his face because he was facing the other direction,” Charlotte shared about the moment of labor.

Charlotte had a healthy pregnancy, but right after baby Charlie was born, the doctor diagnosed him with a serious cleft lip and cleft palate.

“The faces of the doctors and relatives told me something was wrong. I was very scared because I didn’t know if it was related to me or Charlie,” Charlotte said.

Charlotte’s mother told her that baby Charlie had a cleft lip and cleft palate.

Charlotte and her husband were so happy to be home with their son that they were able to feed him from a specially designed bottle.

At first, Charlotte was very worried about the reaction of people around her to little Charlie, but everyone behaved wonderfully and enthusiastically supported her family.
